In this beloved classic, Young Mary Lennox has just emigrated from India to live with her distant uncle. Mary soon finds herself at odds with the inhabitants of her uncle’s large manor who are put off by her harsh and demanding demeanour. Left to wander the gloomy old house, Mary discovers a mysterious neglected garden. While taking refuge there, she learns that finding the true nature of someone or something requires nurturing, perseverance, courage and, most importantly, the intervention of others.

Performance Notes

American Sign Language (ASL) Shadow Interpreted Performances are specifically designed to provide access to YPT performances for audience members who are D/deaf, deafened or hard-of-hearing. These performances feature interpreters who shadow the actors, following them onstage while using ASL. Since the interpreters are integrated into the show, this allows the audience to easily follow both the sign language and the performers. In the 2017/18 season, we will be providing ASL interpretation in connection with The Secret Garden and Selfie. For more information about our ASL Interpreted performances, please contact Aimee Bouchard, Member Schools & Education Manager at or by calling 416.363.5131 ext 216.
